At least 17 Bobolinks (probably more) were present in a field north of the
junction of SR 607 and US 360 on the Prince Edward County/Nottoway County
border just after noon on Thursday 9 May. This site has been dependable for
Bobolinks in migration for the last few years. There was also a Loggerhead
Shrike at the same spot today. It was perched on a dead limb at the top of a
willow by the pond in the middle of the field. Other birds present included
Savannah (1) and Grasshopper (several) sparrows and Blue Grosbeak. This area is
about 1.4 miles southwest of the US 360/ US 460 junction on the west side of
Burkeville (DeLorme 46 c3).
