Today, March 19th, Susan Stanton led the Lynchburg Bird Club on a field trip to
Poplar Forest. A small group of ten members and guests enjoyed the morning
walk. Twenty-seven species were seen at Poplar Forest including a pair of
BLUE-WINGED TEAL which are uncommon this time of year in the area and two GREAT
HORNED OWLS. Complete species list follows.
Officially the club field trip ended about noon. Four members went on to Ivy
Lake for about a half-hour and were rewarded with six additional species
including an adult BALD EAGLE being harassed by a crow. We also saw a
BUFFLEHEAD, a COMMON MERGANSER and two RING-BILLED GULLS along with the usual
waterfowl.
