Hi All,
It was sort of a quasi-work day today. I saw Larry's posting of
the Black-throated Gray Warbler at the State Arboretum of Virginia.
This is only 18 miles from my house in southern Jefferson County, WV.
I got there around 2:00PM and the bird had been seen around 9:45AM in
the same general area that Larry's post mentioned . I met up with Lori Keeler
and Carol Del-Collie ( a good friend and fellow Jefferson County birder ).
We finally located the warbler at 3:30PM in a small cedar tree about 12-15ft
high.
The bird was flitting about much like a kinglet. The tree had red berries on a
vine
near the top of it. Lori told me the name of the berry but I've forgotten it
already.....
We spent the next 35-40 minutes watching it forage amongst the cedar tree and
nearby pine trees.
I also managed to get some half way decent digiscope shots of the bird. I'll
eventfully
post them to the website listed below but if you'd like a sneak peak send me an
email.
What a great way to end the year. I'd only seen this bird in SE Arizona before
today....
Awesome baby......
Good Birding,
