[va-bird] Birds on Holmes Run, Glencarlyn Park, lack of birds at Ben Brenman Park

There were some birds today that I viewed from the pedestrian bridge
crossing Holmes Run at the corner of Holmes Parkway & N Pickett St:
pair WOOD DUCK (m&f)
one BELTED KINGFISHER (vocal adult male)
one GREAT BLUE HERON (also vocal)
two NORTHERN CARDINAL
one NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD
one RING-BILLED GULL
30 MALLARDS (one f annoyingly vocal)
many HOUSE SPARROWS

I've put pictures of the Kingfisher and GBH up at
http://www.pbase.com/bb_etc/va_misc

In that same gallery, I've added a sub-gallery for Glencarlyn Park
(Arlington County) where I added a few images of WOOD DUCK (m&f) that I took
Wenesday (yesterday).

The curious thing is that I am not seeing birds at Ben Brenman Park any
longer and I'm beginning to be suspicious about some of the spraying
activity that has gone on over there, allegedly to kill off unwanted water
plants. That park has been a very good location for birds and now there is
nothing, not even Mallards, for at least a week. Does the City of Alexandria
have the right to disturb the habitat in their parks to such an extent that
wild life is driven off?
