Twelve people participated in the bird walk at the Banshee Reeks Nature
Preserve in central Loudoun Co (www.bansheereeks.org) this morning, June 12.
The highlights of the 61-species day included a NORTHERN BOBWHITE (heard by all
near the beaver pond), WILLOW FLYCATCHER (heard & seen), GRASSHOPPER SPARROW
(heard), YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT (well-seen & very-well heard), EASTERN
MEADOWLARKS and a visit to the MAPS banding station where we saw a few birds
banded. I briefly stopped by the Dulles Wetlands Mitigation Project (DGWMP)
before the walk where I saw the BALD EAGLE near its nest but still no sign of
any young birds.
We also saw a few butterflies.
Don't forget that Banshee is open to the general public next week (the 3rd
weekend of the month) on Saturday & Sunday, June 19 & June 20, from 8 am to 4
pm.
