Hi All,
Yesterday (Saturday) twelve members of the Buchanan County Bird Club made their
way to the highest valley in Virginia, Burkes Garden. The weather was beautiful
with sun and temperatures in the high 40's. We didn't find the target species
of Golden Eagle or Rough-legged Hawk, but we were lucky enough to find 42
species, including a Peregrine Falcon, 6 Kestrels, 18 Red-tails, a Cooper's
Hawk and 1 Loggerhead Shrike, We had 7 waterfowl species, 9 Snipe, 5 Killdeer
and 5 species of woodpeckers including 1 Red-headed.
Those in the group yesterday were Don Carrier, Molly McCutchen, Faye Metzl,
Roger & Lynda Mayhorn, Marie Miller, David Raines, Ed & Michelle Talbott, Jerry
& Jane Thornhill and Sheldon Woods.
It was nice running into members of the Bristol Bird Club, who were also in the
Garden and after lunch they did find two Golden Eagles.
