Hello all
Today Pat & I took off for the Swoope area to see if the Sedge Wrens were still
hanging out at Smith's Pond & over by Mish Barn RD . near Middlebrook . The
Wrens at Smith's were still there at least 4 + birds were heard singing in the
far back side of the pond . The Wrens at Mish Barn Rd . were not seen or heard
. Also at Smith's there were 28+ Wood Duck . On Rt. 876 near the intersection
of Mish Barn Rd . in an open pasture field a Cooper's Hawk chased up about 75 +
Killdeer & mixed in were 3 Least Sandpiper & one White - rumped Sandpiper .
On our way to Harrisonburg we stopped by Leonard's Pond on Rt. 768 . There was
only 6 Killdeer & one Spotted Sandpiper .After getting back into Augusta County
& heading for the Cheese Shop in Stuarts Draft , we made a quick detour by
Quillen's Pond Where we had only one Killdeer on the pond & once outside of the
gates in the corn field next to the lane we counted at least 150+ Indigo
Bunting gathering together to make their journey south . Not a bad day of
birding & shopping .
