Hello all,
We realize this isn't VA birding, but we are back from three weeks of bird
watching in South Africa--Cape Town and surrounding environs and Eastern South
Africa--Mpumalanga, i.e. Kruger National Park, the Dullstroom area, and
Wakkerstroom and KwaZulu-Natal, i.e. Mkuzi, Bonamanzi, brief visits to St.
Lucia and Durban, the area around Hilton and Howick, Sani Pass, and the
Creighton area. This was a bird rich three weeks with 337 new birds out of the
393 species seen. In addition to that, add in the Lions, Hippos, Rhinos,
Buffalos, Giraffes, Leopards, Monkeys, Baboons, etc. that we saw too.
We're more than happy to answer questions, off list would be best, from anyone
planning or contemplating a visit to South Africa.
Our first U.S. bird watching after getting back was a visit to a fairly quiet
Sunrise Valley Park. It appears to have escaped any damage from the storm, and
we were greeted by Mallards, Eastern Phoebes, and a Green Heron.
