Between errands yesterday morning, I was led astray by the mild and sunny
weather. I did a quick stop at Hidden Oaks Nature Center
(http://www.co.fairfax.va.us/parks/hiddenoaks/index.htm) in Annandale,
knowing I only had about 15 minutes to look around. I took the wooded loop
around the ballfields as a result. While almost tipping over trying to track
kinglets in the tops of a grove of pine trees, I suddenly found myself
staring into a pair of big brown eyes! A barred owl hiding in the heavy
foliage -- giving me a look. Woo hooooooo...

Great looks at him until a Sharp-shinned Hawk came over and starting
clucking at him until he moved on.

Other birds:

Hermit Thrush
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Carolina Chickadee
White-throated Sparrow
Song Sparrow
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Cardinal
