Several of us were successful in locating the Barnacle Goose this morning in
the locations previously described on the list serve. Specifically, the
bird was seen from approximately 7:30AM to 8:15AM in the waters of Cameron
Run (adjacent and paralleling Eisenhower Avenue)immediately accross from
Cameron Run Regional Park (the waterslide park). This location is less than
a quarter mile east on Eisenhower Avenue from Hensley Park - where Steven
Eccles had seen the bird earlier in the week. At 8:15 the goose flew off to
the NW, and I relocated it at about 8:40 AM at the baseball field at the
intersection of Duke Street and N. Quaker Lane. I left about 8:50 am and it
was still present.
Other locations where I found candad geese (and a single GWF Goose hybrid)
this morning, that could be good places to search:
1) Benjamin Brenman (spelling?) Park - On Duke Street, just east of the
intersection of Duke and Cameron Run Blvd. This park has a couple small
ponds and ball fields. The goose was seen here earlier in the week by Paula
Sullivan.
2) Sam Tucker Elementary - this on the back edge (adjacent to the metro
tracks) of the townhouse development called "Cameron Station" that is at the
intersection of Duke Street and Cameron Run Blvd. This elem. school is
brand new and NOT shown on my ADC map. The baseball field held about 30
geese this morning at 8:30 AM, including a hybrid Greater-white fronted
goose (body/neck structure of GWF goose with white feather border to bill,
but no barring on breast, diffuse white circular patch on the cheeks, and
pale, almost colorless feet and bill, not white "line" delineating belly
from wings).
3) Bishop Ireton - Just east of the N. Quaker-Duke St baseball field near
the intersection of Duke and Cambridge Rd. No geese this morning, but kids
were arriving for school. Barnacle Goose seen here earlier in the week.
