While searching today to see if the Snow Goose from
a week ago was still around I chanced upon a gorgeous
adult Barnacle Goose in a flock of Canadas in an area
that locals refer to as Layman's Pond. Best access
for viewing is at the back side of the pond.
Heading north on Rt. 220 out of Daleville, turn left
on Rt. 675 (Glebe Road) and proceed to the first main
right hand turn, which will be Orchard Lake Drive.
Proceed past Daleville Pond, which will be on your left,
and turn right onto Fairview Drive. This is a loop road
that will take you to a viewing spot.
Please respect the property rights of those along this
road. The owner of the land with the pond is not all
that friendly with birders, as he respects his privacy.
It is likely, as with most inland sightings of this specie,
that it's origin will be placed in question as this is said
to be a common goose kept in captivity, and not a
countable bird for we listers, but it is worthwhile seeing.
