While on the morning jog through BayCreek in Cape Charles, I noted a
secondary feather of a Barn Owl in the middle of the trail - which wasn't there
yesterday at the same time. I have heard (once, in migration) but never seen
the
species within the town limits, but there are several nearby farms that could
have them. No evidence that this was a Great Horned Owl kill (we have found
Barred Owl remains that certainly were), just one feather. Also along this
trail, Wild Turkeys every few days, two family groups with young of different
age. Amazing to see nearly-grown volant youngsters taking flight and clearing
60-foot treetops - they look like bustards! Red Foxes commonly here as well;
three adults together, cavorting in the woods, yesterday.
