Some 14 birders enjoyed the brisk northerly winds today on the regular
monthly Saturday morning birding walk . Highlights were raptors with Bald
Eagle ,
Red-shouldered , Red-tailed , Sharp-shinnrd , Northern Goshawk ( adult
,probable male ) and a probable immature dark phase Rough-legged. I say
probable
Rough-legged but most of the views were backlight and I could not rule out
possible Harlan's form of Red-tailed.Keep an eye out for very dark Red-tail
buteo
types here in N.Virginia in case it hangs around. Sparrows were sparse but
a small group of 6 Fox Sparrows were seen by one group of observers.Full
