In mid-afternoon yesterday ,1/16 , an immature male Baltimore oriole
appeared at our feeders near Ivy , ca. 10 mi. west of Charlottesville.
It fed off and on, but only from the hanging peanut feeder, for the
rest of the day, ignoring the half of an orange which we put about ten
feet from the feeder.
This morning , after a below freezing night and a dusting of snow ,
the oriole is back , and still prefers the peanuts . It is holding its
own
in the pecking order against White-throats , Titmice , Downys and
Cardinals , but not against Red-bellied wps. and Mockers .
