I have no idea how common they are but we had a mature bald eagle land on a
dead snag in the back yard tonight about 7:30. The whole family eventually
went out on the deck and watched it through binoculars at about 30 ft. for
about
10 min before it swooped off the snag and flew low over the 8 acre lake in
the front yard. It lowered its claws into the water one time seeming to just be
making a statement-not really trying to catch anything. This is at Zion
Crossroads just east of Charlottesville. Does anyone know if Bald Eagles are
common
here, transient or otherwise? Thanks
