was canoing the Upper Iowa River 10 days ago, only a couple miles south
of the Minnesota line, saw two Bald Eagles of the year, one nest, & one
adult. Plains Indians in early 1800s knew the Bald Eagle, but preferred
the Golden [for same reasons Ben Franklin disfavored the Bald Eagle??] jck

Subject: [va-bird] Bald Eagle Inland
Saw and photographed an immature Bald Eagle today (11 Aug about
11:00am)cruising parallel to the Shenandoah River west of Paris, VA. It was
cruising at about 200'along State Route 622, a route which parallels the
river on the west side and, which is accessed where Hwy 50 crosses the
river. Although not particularly rare I thought it unusual for a Bald Eagle
to be this far inland.
