I dropped by Sunrise Valley Park in Reston again this afternoon. I was
there from 5pm to 6pm and just stood out on the bridge over the pond.
When I got there, the Black-crowned Night Heron I saw yesterday was in
exactly the same spot. On a bare branch at the edge of the north-east
corner of the pond. The bird stayed perched there for at least 30
minutes. Then jumped down to the edge of the pond and moved very slowly
along the edge feeding.
For those of you not familiar with this park, here is a web page that
does a very nice job describing it and providing directions.
