Hello all.
Sorry for this late report but we finally got all of the reports in yesterday
. Anyway the Augusta Bird Club had their annual Big Spring Day on May 15th . A
total of 19 members & friends participated in this adventure . A total of 565
miles by car & 10 miles on foot ( Augusta County is roughly 1000 square miles )
. A total of 64 hours & 45 minutes were spent by the 19 people in the field
for the day .During the day Temps. ranged from 59 low to a high of 83 . A total
of 122 species of birds were counted with a grand total of 6527 individual
birds for the day. An ** means that we had no previous Spring high counts for
that species . Below is a list of birds that broke our book for peak counts in
Spring . Out of 122 species 38 species broke our book ( Birds of Augusta County
) with high counts & of the twelve parties two birds were on every count . They
were the Am. Crow & Am. Robin . Three species had high counts but they did not
break the book & they were Solitary Sandpiper -- 28 , Wood Thrush -- 41, & Am
. Redstart -- 101.
