The goose that Paul Pisano saw on Saturday at the mouth of Hunting Creek,
Fairfax, VA was likely the bird that has been in the vicinity
since the end of October. Kurt Gaskill first made mention of that bird in a
post to the VA-Bird list on Nov. 11 and said, "This bird,
which bears a slight passing resemblance to a blue phase Snow Goose, is a cross
between a Canada Goose and some sort of domestic goose."
Since then, it has fooled a more than a few folks. I took a photo of it on Jan.
26 in the Potomac River just south of Hunting Creek Bay
and have posted it on my Yahoo Photos web site at
http://photos.yahoo.com/paulasulli/ ;(It may be necessary to register with

access this or any other Yahoo site.) It is not a great shot, but it might help
to distinguish it from the goose seen on the Anacostia
last week, and also demonstrate why it can be mistaken for a blue phase Snow
Goose.
