Amazingly, I found another Mourning Warbler this morning at my place on Cedar
Creek in Shenandoah County. It was a different individual from the one I found
on Aug 30. This one had only the faintest gray smudge of a band and a very
yellow throat, so is clearly a first-fall bird of indeterminate sex. This is
only the third sighting of this species here; perhaps there is a new breeding
location in the general area making our little valley a likely stopover site.
One can only hope. Otherwise, things picked up a bit today after a front came
through yesterday evening. I got 33 species today, compared to 27
yesterday--not a big change, granted, but trending up. Today's birds included
more likely migrants, including an adult Bald Eagle cruising the ridge to our
north.
