While conducting the birdathon along the Hike-Bike Trail at Huntley Meadows
today (May 10), I observed a female American Redstart constructing a nest off
the trail that leads from the Pond Trail to the Coast Guard marsh while her
mate sang several yards away, and a Black-and-white Warbler possible breeding
pair were observed in a clump of trees first by Ben Jesup and later by Paula
Sullivan and Sharon Lynn at the entrance to the main meadow. Neither species
have been confirmed as breeders at Huntley Meadows for well over a decade.
