This may be a little late, but not too late for all you evening birders!
Last night, between 7 and 8 p.m. I took a stroll at Huntley. First good
omen was a hugh flock of rusty blackbirds screeching all over at the
beginning of the boardwalk. Then, as I proceeded to the outer (western)
part of the circle of the boardwalk where the boardwalk rises, I heard a
bunch of greater yellow-legs out in the middle of the circle, but I kept
going to where all the people were standing and scoping out the American
Bittern AND the sora. The bittern was doing all the same stuff for us
that he did for Rich and then some, pecking a frog to death before he
finally swalled it. And, when you got tired of watching him, the sora
kept marching back and forth, giving great views. Then, on the way out,
we were seranaded by the first strains of a wood thrush. What an
evening.
