Larry Meade and I went to the Manassas sod farm this morning and found the
Am. Golden Plovers, as report by Kurt. (Thanks for the lifer!) We found two
Am. Golden Plovers in the grassy field beyond the dirt where they have been
cutting sod. As we moved closer the birds flew up and circled around and
landed back in the same spot, giving us good looks at the birds in flight.
We counted about 25 Killdeer, and 90 Laughing gulls flying overhead in a
large flock.
The next stop at New York Monument at Bull Run Park, south of Rt. 29,
produced pretty much what was report already by Dave White, plus Pine
Warblers (5) and Tennessee Warblers (2). We then briefly stopped by "Sparrow
Alley" just west of the road off of Route 29, in Bull Run, leading to the
park authority stables, (I think the sign on the road says "equestrian...").
We found some juvenile Field Sparrows, an Indigo Bunting, and a Bald Eagle
flyover.
