There were a few nice surprises at Algonkian Park this morning around the
soccer fields...
Eastern Meadowlark
Savannah Sparrow
Rusty Blackbirds
...and on the river:
RN Grebes- 3 stayed close to the boat ramp, 2 more floated out in midstream and
4 flew upstream
Wood Ducks (many close to shore)
Hooded Mergansers (many close to shore)
Common Mergansers
Lesser Scaup
Tree Swallows
Rough-winged Swallows
The Grebes near the boat ramp were very cooperative and could be studied
closely without leaving your car. There were 1 or 2 there last week also, so
this may be a good place for close study if you haven't yet had the opportunity.
Also, I was constantly hearing an Eastern Pewee song, but never located the
singer. It was most likely a Starling, but I figured it was worth a look
anyway. It's way too early for a singing pewee, right?
