frankly , i think it may have been a greater black-backed gull - i am a
rehabber as well as a bird watcher, and last week, on thursday, i was out of
town
but had a message from the alex shelter that they had a black-backed gull that
had had fishing line around it - when i returned the call, they said they had
sent it to another rehabber - i do not know to whom it was sent- i will try to
call the shelter and ask about it - it is not at all unusal for them to
mis-identify birds - they try really hard - i saw that article and this was my
immediate reaction -
