After leaving Occoquan NWR today (see Marc Ribaudo's post), a Sharp-shinned
Hawk ran a red light at the intersection of Dawson Beach Rd. and Rt. 1 (flying
from Woodbridge back toward the golf course). While stopped at a light in
Woodbridge, two adult Bald Eagles passed low (20-30 ft. up) over the
intersection, one with a fish in its talons, the other trying to get that fish
into it's talons - neighboring motorists oblivious to the spectacle passing
over them (too busy on their cell phones).
Stopped at Occoquan Regional Pk. to try for the Brown-headed Nuthatch (no
luck) but picked up an E. Phoebe along with Black Vulture, E. Bluebird, and Am.
Robin (and a few others also seen at the NWR).
