Jerry Uhlman, Darleen Jarry, and i were at Craney from 8-10:30 this am, and
there weren't a lot of birds there. We saw no Stilts and did not relocate the
Wilson's Phalarope or the Stilt Sandpiper. Shorebird-wise there were a fair
number of both Yellowlegs, Willets, and some Dowitchers in breeding plumage.
There was also a nice concetration of Great Egrets and of Royal Terns, a few
Gull-billed, and one Least. Lots of Ospreys too. Perhaps most noteable were 6
Ruddy
Ducks in breeding plumage and 2 Pectoral Sandpipers.
The beware note: The woman from the office ( and I don't know her name or
position) drove up to us while we were scanning from the South Cross road and
told us we could ONLY drive on the Perimeter road. We could park and walk on
both
Cross roads, but that's not easy to do in the blazing Craney heat, which
meant we could only bird from either end of the Cross roads, which really
limits
one's birding. Has this happened to anyone else? She said it was a matter of
"liability" altho we felt much more vulnerable when not in our car.
