That's the figure the PR guy from Potomac Crossings quoted at "the event"
today. The wetland - mitigation-planting-whatever is in full swing near the
stone
bridge over Hunting Creek . I stumbled onto the PR event when I went out to
scope the mudflats during low tide today. The spokesperson said all the work,
plants and planting averages about $50,000/acre - "our" little plot being
about one acre. Looks like the plants are just about in place with some more
invasives removal scheduled. (I was interested to learn about the Phragmites
they
had removed from the area - has anyone seen any there?) They are also removing
some cattails as they consider those to be invasive in the sense that they are
"too strong" and may overwhelm the new plants. It didn't look like they were
getting major coverage - there were some video cameras and reporters there.
Asking about the sound wall, I was told that the wall would not wrap around the
back of the apartment buildings and that they were now talking about making it
shorter....we'll see...
As far as birds on the mudflats...a few Least Sandpipers (3) Killdeer (12)
and L Yellowlegs(6)...Caspian Terns on the river side (10) and 100 or so
ringers...Rich Rieger
