Va birders
There are currently 360 birds this year, just three short of the record in
2004. See the links at Sue's page: http://www.virginiabirding.org/. It's
interesting that six birds have been added to the Virginia list in three years.
Fulmar, Kittiwake and Thayer's Gull are all winter birds. A Black Guillemot
would make it a six Alcid year, I bet that's never been done. A couple stray
Hummers or winter Finches would be good, and Common Eider is still available.
If this sounds like a back handed effort to get a pelagic trip together, that's
because it is. Hey, it only takes six people.
One idea is go out of Chincoteague or Wachapreague and explore the northern
reaches of Va waters, especially after a NE blow.
I know it's a busy time of year but if anyone wants to try it, keep me in mind.
Good birding,
