I managed to sneak in several hours of birding this morning, and saw 86 species
along Cockpit Pt. Rd. and Occoquan NWR. Highlights were 12 warbler species
(black and white, prothonotary (Occoquan), parula, palm (Occoquan), yellow
(Occoquan), prairie, yellow-throated, yellow-rumped, worm-eating, yellowthroat,
Louisiana waterthrush, and ovenbird), white-eyed, red-eyed, and blue-headed
vireo, about 6 singing wood thrushes, a common loon "fishing" in the ash pond
near the power plant and 3 more in Belmont Bay, at least 1 chick in the ash
pond eagle nest, 2 kingbirds at Occoquan, and green heron at Occoquan.
