Hello, everyone!
Looking forward to seeing you all soon at Global Finals in Knoxville
Tennessee. Please remember that we will be having the usual "Ice
Breaker" after Opening Ceremonies, and I have been guaranteed ample
free pizza, snacks and drinks for all of you! Please plan to
attend!
We will also be looking for those of you that can help with the
Improv Fiesta again. Those of you that have been to Globals before
know that the "Performance Stage" there is "ours"...the plan is for
it to be run and managed by the university teams in order to
increase our visibility in the DI community and encourage the crowds
to come watch your performances. it also gives some of you the
chance to be "hams" as our MCs...or as an act that would perform for
the crowd. (Along that line, I would like to know if any of your
teams would be interested in being the "opening act" for the
performance stage? LMK asap, please!) For those of you that have not
been to Globals before, or to the Improv, be aware that there are
free pins associated with volunteering your time at the stage- OR
performing on it :-)
Something new at the Improv this year. If you know anyone that is an
appraiser or an official at Globals this year- there is another option
available to THEM. Officials are being allowed to do another version
of eXtreme, the eXpress platform, on Thursday night at the
University Level's Performance Stage, starting at 9 PM.
Our Annual Meeting for the UL will take place this year at the
Convention Center, which will be a relief, actually, as it means
less running around for all of us! The time will be 3 PM and there
will be snacks and drinks provided- your attendance is very
important as that meeting is where I collect your input and thoughts
and share them the next morning with the Board of Trustees of DI.
If you have something to say- that meeting is your sure-fire way to
see that gets communicated to the powers-that-be. We also use that
time for planning for the next year and obviously, if you have
thoughts about that, you need to share them! Many of the changes and
improvements that have occurred the past 4 years have come about
through input from teams at the Annual Meeting.
I wanted to be sure that you all knew that you had an extra option
this year at Globals, though. Teams doing the regular challenges are
also able to participate in the DI eXtreme Challenge there, for a
mere additional $50.00 per team. Actually you can Go eXtreme 2X-
doing do the challenge twice while there! Only an extra $35.00 to
register to do that and double the fun. The challenges will be
different each day and the results announced at Awards will be
formulated at the end of that days competition.
Keep in mind that an eXtreme team can also have two- essentially
"guest passes"- graduating high school seniors that are 18 (
MANDATORY- proof will need to be provided) and have a letter of
acceptance from a college or trade school
What a great opportunity to get together with old team mates that you
left behind when you went on to university! An eXtreme team needs to
have 2- 7 members...your whole regular challenge team does not have
to agree to do the eXtreme challenge. If you want to have more kids
on the team, and all your regular team does not want to do it, we
can help you come up with extras to fill the team out. Perhaps the
Texas teams would like to join together for one or two eXtreme
teams?! Could be a blast!
You would need to get registered very soon though so that the
challenge schedule would allow for you doing eXtreme one of the days
while there. It is totally possible though- and why not? If you are
already attending, and have your transportation, room and board set,
well those are usually the only real stumbling blocks for most of
the kids I talk to. If interested, you need to let me know. I
understand that all team members doing eXtreme will be getting a
commemorative pin, btw.
Go ahead...TAKE THE eXtreme CHALLENGE!
