After almost 40 years practicing in NYC ERs, I thought I'd seen and heard it
all.  You would think that after all those years and all that informal
education, I would know better.  Alas, I grapple to hold onto some shred of
belief in the concept of universal, basic human intelligence.  It does not
exist; I should know better.
