Running From Your Past

by Ensign Anita Tessasohn

Counselor Eridd, a young Ensign, took a breath before entering the holodeck. He
knew what awaited him behind those doors. Part of him dreaded this moment. She
was not the most compliant woman, or patient for that matter, to receive help.
In fact, the first time he met her, she had made her problems clear, aired it
out, and didn?t expect any help from him. But his duties, and under the
watchful eye of Starfleet Medical, demanded he help her. It was what he did
best, being a counselor.

Unfortunately today had taken a different turn. At two in the afternoon, she
was late, and only after asking the computer for her whereabouts did he realize
she was doing exactly what was against his specific request. It would seem
he?ll have to make it an order now. He admittedly didn?t want to resort to
this, having known her since the Academy days. They were close, once, but a
friendship had grown between them and now having to help her was straining this
friendship they shared. She was hardheaded, stubborn, fierce, and a whole lot
other more he couldn?t list all, and he was- at times- the exact opposite of
her. It really was to his credit he pushed on.

"Holodeck in use." The computer simply stated. He quickly tapped in a few codes
and entered. His surrounding caught his attention as it seemed peaceful, sunny,
in the midst of a forest with bare or full trees. The ground covered in dirt
and leaves, dried twigs and small pebbles.

It was only a few distinctive grunts that caught Eridd?s attention as he looked
to see her pummeling a man before her. He shook his head. Definitely against
his requests. He walked over, having a complete view of the fight before his
eyes. Dressed in simple clothing, nothing special of the sort, she looked like
the girl next door pretty. Sweaty from the closing distance as she dodged
several blows but got hit on the opponents intricate stratagem, and realized a
second person stood there waiting. Sometimes he wondered why they ever broke
up. And then he realized he hadn?t been the best for her. She caught notice of
him few times, but her attention was focused on her opponent. Errid stopped a
relatively safe distance from her fight. A padd in his hands, clamped together
in front of him as he waited patiently. She was pushed back, taking a blow to
her midsection.

Close, but not too close to him, Errid took the opportunity to ask, "How are
you feeling today, Anita?"

She took a few sure steps, whirled around, catching the closest of her opponent
with her powerful legs as they feel bonelessly to the ground. The other charged
at her with a staff, roaring up a storm that only infuriated her some more as
she dodged the wooden weapon, grabbed it, and shoved it back before taking it
as hers and slamming it against her aggressor?s head. The faceless opponent-
with only eyes showing through black covered linen- fell only to disappear as
the holodeck materialized another opponent. Holding a sword with a death grip-
a her aggressor a woman- charged at her slicing the air as part of her
intricate feat of sword display.

"Just great!" Anita shouted as she blocked the sword coming down upon her head
and swung the staff to meet her aggressor?s ribs. A few knocks and she was
down. "Computer end program."

Anita Tessasohn looked at Errid, giving him a smile that he personally thought
looked a little to sporty for such a violent program. She instantly read his
attitude, "you know, you really need to get your frustration out sometime in
one of these programs."

Errid smirked, "I don?t like the idea of having a blade two inches to my life a
stress reliever. But we?re not talking about me, Miss Tessasohn, we?re on the
subject about you."

She took a breath, shaking her head in an attempt to dispatch her hair from her
face, "yeah. Right. I told you how I?m feeling. Do we have to do this session,
Errid?"

Errid nodded, "it?s for your own benefit, Anita. Besides, ever since the
destruction of the Slayton in the ambush by Breen pirates; you haven?t once-
except for the time you entered my office and gave me a, shall we say, reader?s
digest version of your feelings- come to me and talk about how you?re handling
the situation."

Anita shook her head, "I don?t have time to spew off whatever emotional mushy
gushy crap about how I feel. And besides, I?ve already told you what I felt.
You, I might remind, haven?t done whatever it is you?re suppose to do since I
was ordered to come to you for help. If I remember correctly," she closed in a
little between them, "you were attempting to get back with me. Isn?t that
right... ?dear??"

Errid?s eyes looked down. For some unexplainable reason, she was intimidating
him. That rarely happened. She caught him at his own blunders right now. Anita
walked out of the holodeck, leaving Errid to catch up, she really had no
intention of talking to him, and felt it was a mistake to have him as her
shrink, "Are you sure you were given the job of consulting me? Because we
haven?t gone anywhere since I saw you."

"But we have."

"No, we haven?t. Not that I intend to with you, at any rate." She shook her
head.

"But," Errid frowned, "I thought we had developed a mutual friendship?"

"That?s what I thought before you attempted to flirt with me during one of our
sessions."

"We?ve only had three." Errid said with a resigned tone.

"Let?s keep it at that. Look, Errid," she stopped and faced him. Deep brown
eyes that- for the moment- looked straight at him instead of through him,
"you?re... a great guy. Alright? But frankly, this session is over. So is
tomorrow?s, and the day after, and the day after that."

Errid frowned, "so, what exactly is it you want to do?"

Anita perked an eyebrow, "I would think it?s clear by now, Errid. I?m asking
for a different shrink. This is a mistake, you shouldn?t be so close to this
case... especially since we know each other well enough."

"Anita, I?m sorry. I mean, if it was my attempts, I really do apologize. I
should no better than to take advantage of you at this fragile moment."

"You bet your ass you?re sorry." Anita shook her head. The walk had continued
as the turned a corner, "my decision still stands, Errid. Get me another doc,
and I promise I?ll stop with the holodeck programs."

They stopped in front of Anita?s guest quarters. There was a moment of silence
between them. Errid, trying to get all this down on a padd and deciding if this
was the best course fell short on words as he marked a few notes on the padd.
Anita punched her codes in as the doors automatically wisped open. "See you
around, Errid. I?ll let you know if I get posted on a ship, or anything else
that?s happening." It was the closest she could afford in kindness right now,
entering the quarters and leaving Errid to his own business.

She did want to let him know about how she felt about the experience. The
smoldering deck plates, the burnt EPS conduits, and her along with several
others struggling to get to an escape pod. But instead, she had brushed it off,
running from her feelings, attempting to move on without having to compromise
her strength.

She stood by her window, glass of water in her hand as she saw the city before
her eyes. There was only one thing in her mind right now. Errid. A moment of
despair caught her, and she found it harder to shake it off.

Admittedly, she thought to herself, I do need your help...
