"Mal? Status?"
"It appears, sir, that they did not expect us to flee." Malachi tapped
on the console and peered into the science screen. "They started to
pursue, but apparently cannot match our speed, sir."
"That's one bit of good news," Lukas remarked. "What have they done to
mah ship?"
"Checking, sir," Mal
once again replied/ It took him but a moment to come up with the
answers. "Their energy blast has created a massive short circuit in
defensive shields and weapons systems, sir. Relays all over the ship
have been melted down."
"Yet," Lukas observed. "We apparently have navigational deflectors."
"That is correct, sir,"
Malachi commented. "The ship would not have gone to warp had we not.
The navigational sensors are on an independent circuit. It seems only
to have effected defense systems."
"Are we out of range of the Orion sensors" Lukas asked.
"Aye, sir," Malachi
said with assuredness, then a slight hesitation came to his voice. "At
least...."
"At least what, Mal?"
"They did drop into
normal space without any warning," Mal pointed out. "I am not certain
what type of drive they are using, sir."
"Well now is the tahme to fahnd out," Lukas said standing up. "Fahnd
us a quahet star system to lick our wounds, Mal, and send them to
helm. When Lt. Matsu returns to the bridge, Ah want to know what thape
of star drahve they are using and what that weapon was.
"Cadet Wren. Send out a message to all departments. GEt all shifts to
getting this ship back in shape."
