?Looking with New Eyes?
by Lieutenant Joshua Asper

A more than somber cloud had fell on Josh and Telsia?s little corner of the Banshee. The once joyous feeling of being together again, and having a young boy as the product of their love, had somehow faded into oblivion to the fact that once again they may be torn from each other?s embrace. After all they had fought for it was becoming quite apparent that fate didn?t want them together, but Josh and Telsia would fight that fate.

The room was quiet and dark. Josh looked at Telsia laying just inches from him. She was more beautiful than he had remembered in his dreams and her presence alone could?ve have brightened his darkest days. Telsia had drifted into peaceful slumber almost an hour ago, but Josh found it increasingly difficult to close his eyes and let sleep take him.

His eyes went to the ceiling and stopped. He tossed in turned in the sheets, crawled out and then got back underneath, but sleep refused to come to him. Josh rolled over, basking in his fiancee?s glory and then kissed her neck. His feet settled on the floor almost inaudibly as he marched into the living area. Everything was at piece and content with not moving, why couldn?t Josh be that way too?

As he crossed the expansive room as he headed towards Cameron?s bedroom, thoughts hit Josh. He would go with them wherever it was deemed that they would go. Life on the Banshee would be missed, probably more than Josh ever imagined possible, but his life with his son and his fiancee wouldn?t be affected by his career. After hours of deduction and seemingly endless scenarios it became obvious that life and love were one in the same.

Cameron was his blood, was his family?s future. It wasn?t all about himself anymore, Josh surmised, the fact was that his life and his choices thereof would directly affect Cameron and Telsia was the pivotal role. It was time that he did what his father said would happen ? take control of your life because, in turn, you take control of another person or persons? life. It was all the simpler now and Josh had finally realized that he?d grown up.

Granted it was sooner than Josh figured, it wasn?t unwelcome. He always wanted to have a large family with several kids with loving parents, but he never ? even in his wildest dreams ? thought that he?d have a family before he was twenty-five. That was all in the past now for there was no going back after going through all the changes he and Telsia had already trudged through.

Josh pulled his son from his bed and cradled him in his arms. The boy was exhausted and remained still in his father?s arms. Josh looked at the innocent, and saw himself looking at the spitting image of himself. Josh was, essentially, holding himself as a baby. There was no better feeling than knowing that the young child was created by Josh himself, it was an amazing feeling.

And, with that, he knew that it was time to leave Banshee.

Life had changed, and Cameron was the thing that got the wheel moving.

After setting the small child back into his crib, Josh remembered a lullaby that his father had sung to him. It rolled in his mind, the perfect pitch and the soft words echoing lightly overhead in what could be construed as heavenly and angelic voices. It was utter bliss when his father sang to him, but he found that he could hardly remember the face looming over him during the interludes.

It was time to pass that on to his son. Yes, Josh thought, it was time to begin a new generation.

I was never alive
'Til the day I was blessed with you
When I hold you late at night
I know what I was put here to do
I turn off the world and listen to you sigh
And I will sing my Angel's Lullaby

Know I'm forever near
The one you can always call
Right all you know to fear
Are the shadows on your wall
I'm here close enough
To kiss the tears you cry
And I will sing my Angel's Lullaby

So tell me how to stop the years from racing
Is there a secret someone knows?
I'll never catch all the memories I'm chasing
I'll never be ready to let go

And when the world seems cold
And you feel that all of your strength is gone
There may be one tiny voice
Your reason to carry on
And when I'm not close enough
To kiss the tears you cry
You will sing your Angel's Lullaby
Let this be our Angel's Lullaby
