"Fear and Daydreams" By. Lt. Sara Crusher The clock on the wall seemed to be playing games. At one point during the day it seemed to be racing around the numbers at warp speed, but now it seemed as if it were barely moving. Sara sat at her desk working on the day’s paperwork, her left leg bouncing up and down faster then a rabbit’s. Her mind was elsewhere and clearly not on the padd she held in her hand, since she‘d just ordered three creates of grape lollipops and not three creates of hypospray vials. She’d stopped by the Down Under Lounge after meeting Matthew at the shuttle bay and made arrangements for a very nice catered dinner to be set up in her quarters by 2100 which took at least one thing off her mind, but there was still the whole reason for the dinner. "What if they don’t like each other?" She asked herself as she filled out next weeks shift assignments. Matthew would be the first person in her family that Cyanah would meet and it scared the hell out of Sara. Cyanah had seemed delighted and nervous over the idea when Sara told her about it over lunch, and Matthew couldn’t wait to meet Cyanah but what if it all blew up. What if they didn’t like each other, what if Cyanah though her brother was a jerk, which he could be at times, but what if that made her think her whole family was nuts. Sara shook her head as she sipped on a warm soda that had been sitting on her desk since lunch. Cyanah would like Matthew and to be honest, who’s family isn ’t a little nuts. Sara sat back in her chair, closed her eyes, and took in a deep breath. Everything would turn out fine this evening as long as she relaxed. "Do you have a moment, Dearie?" The sudden voice in her mind caused Sara to bolt up right. "Come in, Mrs. Troi." She called out loud. Her office doors whooshed open and Sara watched with a smile as the tall worldly woman, who’d been making her presence known on the ship the past few weeks, walk though them. Lawaxana Troi sauntered in and took the seat in front of Sara before Sara could offer it. "We’re approaching my destination, Sara dear, and I wanted to stop by one last time before I disembark." The elder woman’s words came gently into Sara’s mind which Sara was grateful for. Sara opened her mouth to reply but a quick look from Mrs. Troi changed her mind. "I hope your stay was bearable, Ambassador." Sara said telepathy. Even after all this time around Mrs. Troi, Sara was still not use to this type of commutation with anyone but Cyanah. "Indeed it was thanks to my darling brother, and of course meeting my new friends." Mrs. Troi’s smile grew. "I do hope I’ll get to see Kathryn again soon. Perhaps at the wedding. If I may be so bold as to expect an invitation." Wedding? Sara looked at Mrs. Troi with her surprise clearly written on her face. Had Rhi said something about her engagement? No, she’d have heard an earful from Kathryn if she had. So what wedding was Mrs. Troi talking about? Perhaps her brother had a betrothed waiting for him back on Betazed? Sara picked up her soda and tried to act as causal as she could as she asked, "Wedding? Who’s wedding?" Mrs. Troi seemed to down right beam for some odd reason. "Yours and that delightful woman you’ve completely lost your heart and soul to of course!" Sara managed -only barely- to cover her mouth before she’d given Mrs. Troi a soda shower. She coughed and gasped as she tried to recover not only from choking on her soda but from the shock of that statement. "Excuse me?" She finally managed to get out. "Well of course it won’t be soon. I mean a wedding takes time to plan especially one fit for the daughter of one of noble houses, plus I’ve heard your beloved is something of a noble on her own world, so of course you two will have only the best." Mrs. Troi laughed. "I can see Sorcha now, your grandmother will be beside herself making plans." The dumbfounded look on Sara’s face seemed to be plastered there. She had no idea how to respond so when she finally found her voice she stumbled over her words. "Um.. Mrs. Troi.. We’re not.. I don’t think.. I mean we're both so young and it’s only been.. I mean, it’s just.. We’ve never even talked about... getting married." That wasn’t completely true. There’d been a few times while snuggled together in the early morning hours when the subjected had been hinted at; tossed around, but it wasn’t anything official, it was pillow talk, lovers daydreaming after a night of love making. Mrs. Troi laughed lightly. "Your Imzadi, dear." Sara just blinked. And that’s suppose to be the lock down? She thought to herself. Mrs. Troi of all people should know that being Imzadi doesn’t secure a ring on anyone's finger, since her daughter is still very much single and still very much living the ideal of "We’re close friends" with her Imzadi. Although, Sara could more then understand Deanna’s side of things. If it ever got to that point she’d want to keep Cyanah in her life by any means feasible. "The idea scares you." Mrs. Troi said out loud which startled Sara out of her thoughts. Sara only nodded as a response. "Well it scares you because it is scary. The idea of giving that much of yourself over to someone else, the idea of how much work something like that takes to make it work. Your afraid of messing up what you have now. Your even worried that by thinking about it that somehow you’ll scare the other person away." Sara listened to Mrs. Troi and she watched her. Something told her that the elder woman wasn’t reading her thoughts and emotions, even though she was hitting everything dead on. No, what she was saying was coming from somewhere deep within herself, which in some odd way made Sara feel better. "Everything will happen when it's meant to be, child, don’t worry." Mrs. Troi stood and smiled. "Now if you’ll excuse me I still have a lot of packing to do." Sara stood and walked around her desk. She allowed Mrs. Troi to engulf her in a bone crunching hug before watching her saunter back out the door. Time ticked on with out her as Sara sat at her desk lost in a world wind of thoughts. She didn’t even notice when her office doors opened, or hear the voice that called out to her until she felt a pair of arms wrap themselves around her. "Love?" Sara smiled and wrapped her arms around Cyanah’s. "Where were you?" Sara stood up and turned around in Cyanah’s arms and kissed her before replying. "Just daydreaming."
