I can confirm that USBProxy works on kernels 3.8, 4.1, 4.4 and 4.8. In general,
no issues from kernel 3.15 onward.

Excellent. That would be my strategy too.
I am reviewing other SOMs to decide whether we want to customise our own
board based on, say, the same AM355x CPU ones. However, some of these
specifies that their module only supports kernel > v3.2 or even kernel v4+.
Do you foresee any issues with using newer kernels?
Trawling through the archives seems to indicate the latest Debian release
tested is Jessie, which is based on kernel v3.1x.
BTW, if I don’t reply thanks after your post, it just means I don’t want to
spam the thread with a one word reply. ;-)
Thanks in advance.

There's an SD image on the GitHub release page, you can use this to update
the OS on the BBB.
Thanks for the tip.
There's also a bunch of stuff on the wiki about recompiling /
cross-compiling some updates. Does this mean I will need to prepare Linux
environment?
I usually recommend building on the BBB itself, setting up the cross compile
environment didn't end up being any more productive for me.
