Hi, everyone.
Thanks again for your patience these past few months. As the FTP Chess
Parlor Tournament originally scheduled for the fall resumes, I think
it important to make the following changes and allowances based on
some recommendations I recently have received and on feedback from
some of you as to why some may not have joined initially. In addition,
I know there have been some folks who have joined the various groups
since who may also like to play.
In a separate email, you will find a list of folks who previously had
signed up to play in the November-January tournament. I would like to
give everyone the opportunity to add your name to the list if you
aren’t mentioned on it. I’m also mentioning a few alterations in the
time control and format that might make it easier for folks to follow.
I’m including the guidelines here as well. Please, let me know on list
if you have any questions.
Please, let’s get the list of players finalized by Jan. 22 so we can
get the pairings posted and round 1 underway on January 24.
Tournament Guidelines:
This tournament will be played via Skype or Free Chess. The time
control will be game in 105 minutes per person.
1. As a matter of sensitivity to the amount of tournaments going on
currently, this will be a four round, Swiss style tournament with
three weeks per round.
2. The ratings used in this tournament will be gleaned, as much as
possible from the International Skype Tournament list that Olivier
oversees. If your name is not on that or on the FTP rating list, then
you will be assigned a rating of 1000 for pairing purposes.
3. Scoring to determine an outright winner will be as follows: 10
points per win; 4 points per draw; 0 points for a loss; 2 points for
timekeeping each game up to a max of 10 accumulated points.
4. A forfeit is counted as a loss and, thus, earns the one forfeiting
the match 0 points.
5. Per FIDE rules, if you are 15 minutes late once clocks have
started, then you have forfeited your match.
6. If, for any reason, you need to reschedule your match due to an
intervening event, illness, et al that comes up, you have until the
start of your scheduled game to notify the TD and your opponent.
Preferably, please, notify us a day or so prior so that adjustments
can be made for timekeeping and accommodating other games.
7. Please, schedule your game for the given round as soon as possible
after pairings are posted. That will give you and your opponent more
time to reschedule if something comes up that prevents the initial
scheduling of your game.
8. The schedule for the tournament will go as follows:
a. The list of all entries will be complete no later than Wednesday,
January 22. Pairings for round 1 will follow on January 24, at which
time you can start scheduling round 1 games.
B. Round 1 games must be played by Feb. 14 so that round 2 pairings
can be posted on Feb. 16.
C. Round 2 games must be complete no later than March 7 so that
pairings for round 3 can be posted on March 9.
D. All games for round 3 must be completed by March 30 so that
pairings for round 4 can be posted on April 2.
E. Round 4 games must be completed by April 23.
10. To schedule your games, please, do this privately with the player
contacts list that will be provided prior to the round 1. This will
cut down on list traffic.
11. Please, list all times in UTC when scheduling If you need help
with this, please, ask.
12. When you and your opponent have agreed on a day and time for your
game, please, post it to the list and copy me, the TD, requesting a
timekeeper. Suggested format in the subject line goes like this
example: Poe Damron will play Finn, FTP Chess Parlor Tournament, round
x, at 16:00 UTC on Feb. 1.
13. Please, send your results including game score and winner-loser or
draw to the FTP list.
