Acording to what I see on Chess Baron's site, the magnetic set that is currently being sold for $49.95 usually sells for $129. If anyone is interested, well, who cannot use another chess set, right?

If you talk to Baron, I'm sure he will explain their current position on using credit cards. As I recall, I bought the chess sets for the USBCA, and those who were buying sets for themselves reimbursed me directly. Well, so did the USBCA, come to that. Anyway, I don't recall if Baron just wasn't set up for credit cards, or if it maybe had something to do with international transactions. The Why doesn't really matter--although it does seem that if the website shows "Pay by card," then, theoretically, it should work. But, again, talk to him. He is actually quite atuned to adaptive media issues. Dollar for dollar, I doubt there's a better buy out there, although I haven't seen Baron's magnetic sets. The ones you can get from Italy are beautiful, plenty of magnetic hold, even for the heavy-handed, and they have one that folds. But you're looking at a price tag of $125 to $250, US, plus shipping. And my memory tells me there was some kind of issue with international shipping with the Italian sources.

HTH,
Jim T

Well, I sure hope their hearts are in the right place. In their bodies! I mean, if they aren't, what a catastrophe!! (ornery grin)

Hi Charles,
I found the same thing, but I wanted to use PayPal. I have two solutions.
First, use the mouse cursor function of your screen reader to attempt to
click on those graphics. Second, call them. They are vary nice to deal with.
They are likely to be uneducated about accessibility, but I can say that
their hearts are in the right place.

When I select the magnetic set and go to buy it, my basket shows up
correctly.  However, below, there are 3 graphics.  They are:
Pay by Card

Pay by Card

Pay by Card

and none of them function.  Any thoughts on how to buy using a card are
appreciated.

Hi,
It looks like the magnetic set is on sail for a nice price. Here is the
direct link.

Hi Charles,
Yes, the pieces are Staunton design. Kings and queens might be as much as 3
inches, the rest of the pieces are, of course, shorter. I wouldn't call them
small, though. I recommend you check out www.chessbaron.com for a look. He
has ten-inch and 13-inch boards. He also has magnetic, now, that apparently
will hold up to handling. Baron Turner is the fellow who has the business.
He's been working closely with the BCA to QC his sets. We, The USBCA, bought
four sets from him last year to present to the Florida School for the Deaf
and Blind. They had a nice little group of kids learning chess, one of whom
came to the tournament last year. They are extremely nice sets. I haven't
looked at his site lately to see what his prices are these days, but, for
the quality, his prices were not bad at all. I highly recommend them. Check
them out.

What is the board size?  How large are the pieces?  Are they of the Staunton
design?  In other words, are the Knights shaped like a horse's head?  And
how are the colors of the pieces and squares indicated?  Lastly, what was
the cost of the set?  Thanks.

The board I ordered from Chess Baron got here today. So I can now do the
official thing. It looks like the magnetic bits are extremely sticky, so
I'll probably do a similar arrangement for the other board then. But I don't
see any obvious problems with the design currently. I just figured I'd write
and let everyone know that the board got here, so if you need an extra,
they're still shipping.
