HI David,
I'm intrigued. Who's this Steven DeJoseph?
ON FIDE, there is an USA player called Stephen DeJoseph, rated at 1952.
Despite the wrong spelling of Stephen, I contend the notion that he's a
Candidate Master. With such a rating of 1952, he's nearly 250 points away
from obtaining the CM title. And believe me, that's some considerable
distance.
However, 1952 is certainly a respectable rating and one that is worthy of
consideration.
Jessica though, seems to have a rating of 1980, which is higher than
Stephen's. So, it is not really that a big surprise that with the white
pieces, she manages to defeat his Sicilian Defence.
For instructional purposes, can I suggest that you try to grab a copy of the
game-score between Jessica and Stephen and post it on here and I'm sure that
some of us can comment on it and maybe, both players may benefit from the
constructive analysis that can be derived from the process?
Cheers,
Chris

Subject: [usbca_chess] U.S. Blind Players Championship day 1
Greetings, everyone.
The first day of the U.S. Blind Players Championship o.t.b. tournament is
finished, two rounds in the bag. And the big winner today is Jessica Lauser.
After defeating yours truly in a very fast-paced Pirc, she defeated the
candidate master, Steven DeJoseph's Sicilian defense.
If Jessica's play continues, she will be the first woman to win the U.S.
Blind Players Championship.
The overall standings look lie this:
Jessica Lauser and Al Pietrolungo both stand 2-0. Al defeated Jim Homme and
Ginny Alverson on to his day 1 undefeated status.
Yours truly came back from being defeated by Jessica to grind out a win
against Jim Homme. So, my record and that of Steven DeJoseph is 1-1.
Then, Jim Homme and Ginny Alverson follow at 0-2.
Thanks to my wife, Amy, to Jim Caris (pardon my spelling, Bruce Leveret and
Alex and Nita Patel for their helping out with various administrative
hands-on work all day.
We're looking forward to tomorrow, rounds 3-4 after which we will crown the
2018 champion for our annual over-the-board tournament.
All the best in chess,
David Rosenkoetter
