Shredder Classic V4 for PC is a user interface plus Shredder chess engine.
I've never heard of anyone running the Shredder engine via winboard and I
don't think there would be much point in doing this as you would loose some
of the additional functionality that you would get via the Shredder Classic
user interface. The interface is a little quirky but does seem to be more
text based than say Fritz. It does have a command line which you can type
commands into. Once again I havent used the program for a very long while so
I wouldn't be in a good position to advise you on its use.
A free program you may wish to consider is SCID which is a free chess
database program. I have never got around to using this but I know that
Johannes Grib thinks highly of this program.

guess it is a chess engine. So do I need to install it as a separate
chess program or do I have to paste it in the Winboard software?
