Well, after a few dozen double-taps, I was able to reconstruct my game with
Shredder. I had to score it backwards. After the game it put me up to an ELO
rating of 1600. It played this game at a strength it said was ELO 1200. Some of
its moves, particularly the a- and h-pawn moves are mysterious to me. After
this game, it bumped its own ELO rating up to 1400. Why it did not give itself
a rating equal to the one it gave me of 1600, I do not know.
Also, I needed to go through the game forwards again because, when I notated
the moves, I failed to take account of ambiguities. When Shredder announces its
moves, it does it in such a way that there are no ambiguities, but I used the
standard notation so everyone could read it easily and stupidly neglected to
take account of those possible ambiguities. I went through the game forward by
simply double-tapping the Redo Move button. Interestingly, I did not change the
rating of Shredder back to 1200 from 1400, but it displayed the same moves as
it made the first time. I’m not sure that it even played them but rather simply
redisplayed the ones it made previously.
When I went through the game forwards this time, I checked its evaluations for
most of the moves. Its evaluations of my position go down through the 20s, then
start climing around move 28. Of particular interest is that it apparently
thought that my move 31 was especially brilliant. Its evaluation went up
dramatically after I made that one. I thought that it was a good move, but I
can’t recall an evaluation jumping up by that much for one move before. I’ll be
especially interested to hear if anyone has any ideas on that.
Any thoughts on any of this are welcome.
