Do you have links to chess articles with images that you wish you
could read? I'm testing a process that takes .png, .gif, and .jpg
images and opens lichess.org and shows accessible positions. I want to
see how accurate the process is, and I want to see how helpful it is.
If you think something like this would be useful and helpful, I would
be willing to explain how itworks on a Skype call. This would work on
PC, Mac, and mobile. For now, though, I'd like you to send me links to
articles to test with.
I'm talking about this partly because I was able to find an
open-source chess book on tactics. It would take a lot of effort to
manually convert all the images, so I was thinking of creating a
process that would automatically look through all the images and
return accessible descriptions to my PC that I could then insert into
the book, or even have the process insert the descriptions.
I contacted Bookshare about turning their images from chess books into
accessible text, but they said that doing that and sending the books
back to them violates their publisher agreement. They told me that I
could do this only for myself. Since that is the case, I would not
want to be responsible if someone here creates accessible versions of
the books and shares them. That said, though, I know there must be
lots of public domain chess diagrams that could be made accessible
with this process.
I'm thinking of doing one page from the open source book at a time and
posting it
on my site as accessible posts. I'm also considering some other
things, but there is only so much time for work and this other stuff,
and I forget what my wife, Clara looks like, so I'm not interested in
having her leave without me findding out. <smile>
