Apologies for not being able to update you on the progress and results of
the chess Olympiad. A series of things went drastically wrong for me during
the vent. Towards the end, my laptop's hard-drive gave out, completely
separating me from the cyber-world. Cancellation of my return flights by
Turkish Airlines complicated matters considerably and with my current mood
with my poor chess play, this trip was not the success as I would have
hoped. It has been argued that I burned myself in Berlin prior to the
Olympiad, although I considered this excellent preparation for it. Maybe it
was the venue in Baku or just a matter of bad-form. Who knows.

IBCA were seeded 90th entering into the tournament. The final results give
us in 88th place, a slight but distinguished position in such a prestigious
event.
Individual performances were as follows:

Not much more can be said really. Accommodations out in Baku were fine,
although there was very little to do in the near vicinity. The Caspian Sea,
next to the hotel, was not very appealing, covered in crude oil and omitting
a rather potent fuel-odour. Temperatures were high and with the
air-conditioning in the various venues, the switch between hot and cold did
cause some difficulties with acclimatisation.
