Yesterday I was up in the woods near Glide. At one stop late morning there
were flocks of GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE flying over constantly, though
at great height, as I could barely hear them and could not see them through
the cloud cover. The next few weeks are their typical pass-through time so
lift your ears/eyes to the sky now and then. :-)
At our place in Melrose, one of our WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS is still here;
this morning a LINCOLN'S SPARROW showed up and actually fed IN the feeder,
which seems out of character for this skulker; about a dozen GOLDEN-CROWNED
SPARROWS are still around; one WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW has been here for a
couple weeks; and if I listen outside I can usually hear a SONG SPARROW
singing somewhere. Our winter flock of DARK-EYED JUNCOS thinned out a few
weeks ago, but one continues and may breed nearby.
