Greetings
I'm chewing over the use of the new Tick mark (dots 4 1-4-6), particularly if
it could be used in a Non-Technical context where some boxes are ticked and
others are not.
The RNIB's Braillists' Manual (advising on formatting in the UK) says blank
boxes mentioned in instructions may be replaced by the word "box" in
transcriber's note indicators.
What influence might the new Tick mark symbol have in such a non-technical
situation?
A short note for the average reader (eg "Dots 4 1-4-6 in the list below
represent a tick mark.") should clarify its meaning in basic text.
In a Technical work, a square symbol indicator followed by an enclosure
indicator and the tick symbol is a possibility, but in a basic text for the
average non-technical reader this seems a step too far.
Options which come to mind are:
@.<tick$ box@.>
Or
@.<box @%@.>
Or
@.<;$#d[@% repres5ts a tick$ box4@.>
Any thoughts?
As ever, input from this group is most valued.
