You certainly shouldn't see a 1 second lag!

I have tried last packaged cvs version ( 20060318 ) and i have this problem too, maybe not 1 second but at least half a second.

--with-alsa too, with debian sarge, cmedia card, p4 1800.

alsa-base 1.0.8-7
alsa-headers 1.0.8-7
alsa-oss 1.0.8-1
alsa-utils 1.0.8-4

What have you got sound_maxbuf= set to in your config?

Here i have tried with 8192 too.

Of course, ALSA may be doing interesting things behind the scenes (perhaps it's using the dmix plug-in to mix the sound output of multiple applications).

I don't know, i don't use nor gnome nor kde but icewm so there should be nothing else using the sound.

What software are you running when you notice this lag?

I have tried with the game "Rick Dangerous".

I have tried also with a version built without --with-alsa whilst configuring, and the delay seems disappeared [ this way i'm probably using alsa-oss ]

Thank you.
