For now, one idea occurs to me: do you have 'writeable' CD/DVD
drives on these
systems?
It's a limitation of OS X, that you cannot send SCSI generic
commands to a
read-only CD/DVD drive (and, yes, a real SCSI emulation is on the
ever-expanding to-do list ;-). The fact that you get a
'KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE' made me think of that.
