To be honest, I have no idea how to create an RDB Hardfile using dd; the
hardfiles I have now were created a long time ago using WinUAE's
interface. Maybe the procedure is the same, but just specifying the
geometry in the uaerc makes all the difference. However, you tried that
without success, so I dunno.
Geometry is the only difference.
"Zero" geometry = UAE's RDB parser is enabled, regular hardfile mounting
is disabled and SCSI-emulator is enabled. (HDToolBox uses SCSI-support
to check drive's size and name etc.. Drive won't be visible in HDToolBox
if SCSI is not available)
Normal geometry = No RDB parsing, automount as a single harddrive
partition and don't accept any SCSI commands.
btw, you can use regular hardfiles with custom filesystem if you add
path to filesystem handler in hardfile2-config file entry ("faked RDB"
custom filesystem emulation) and if hardfile contains correct filesystem
id in first block ("SFS\0" for SmartFileSystem etc..)
for example:
hardfile2=rw,DHX:D:\amiga\plain.hdf,32,1,2,512,0,D:\amiga\AMIGA\l\SmartFilesystem
Beginning of plain.hdf:
00000000h: 53 46 53 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ;
SFS.............
00000010h: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ;
