Mike, Further info:
Although it is telling me at one point that new hardware is installed it is
also telling me that:
Driver cannot be installed because it is either not digitally signed or not
signed in appropriate manner and also:
Software not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with
Windows XP.
On the box it came in it states Windows XP with service pack 2 or higher -
which I think I must have.

There have been problems with some versions of Skype and using a web-cam -
where upgrades have cured for many users (I am told).

  So:

What version of Skype are you using?

What OS are you using on your PC - XP, Vista, Windows 7 ...?

What web-cam do you have> Was there any software with it?

Are you using an HP PC/laptop? (or, better question, what PC do you have! -
though there are some issues with HP and video)

Waiting for your answer I shall try to remember how I set one up last century
and for some well informed person to chip in!

  Mike

  Hello all

A friend has given me a webcam with a view to my using Skype. We have
installed Skype OK but are having problems getting the computer to recognise
the webcam. We have just spent 3 hours trying to get it sorted. Can get sound
but no picture! Any suggestions?
